18 U.S.C. Sec. 922(G) Unlawful Shipment or Transportation of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Prohibited Person is a federal law which prohibits certain individuals from shipping or transporting firearms or ammunition in interstate or foreign commerce. These individuals are referred to as “prohibited persons” and include those convicted of a felony or certain misdemeanors, fugitives from justice, minors, individuals under indictment, and those who have been dishonorably discharged from the military. This law applies to all types of firearms including handguns, rifles, and shotguns. It also applies to ammunition, components of firearms, and parts of ammunition. Violations of this law are punishable by up to 10 years in prison, fines, and other penalties.
