A South Carolina Judgment is a court-ordered legal decision that requires a person or business to pay a certain amount of money or property to another person or business. There are two main types of South Carolina Judgments: Monetary Judgments and Abstracts of Judgment. A Monetary Judgment requires the person or business to pay a specific amount of money to the person or business owed. An Abstract of Judgment is a document that records the Judgment and provides public notice that a Judgment exists. Once entered, the Abstract of Judgment is recorded with the South Carolina Secretary of State, which makes it a public record.
