South Carolina Release/Satisfaction of Claim is a legal document that is used to document the full and final payment of a debt. It is an acknowledgement that a debt has been paid in full and releases the debtor from any further claims to the debt. There are two types of South Carolina Release/Satisfaction of Claim: a release of lien and a release of judgment. A release of lien is used when a debt has been paid and the lien that was placed on the debtor's property is removed. A release of judgment is used when a judgment has been entered against the debtor and the debt is paid in full, releasing the debtor from any further claims related to the judgment. Both types of releases must be properly notarized and filed with the appropriate court in order for them to be valid.
