A Rhode Island Notice of Appeal — District Court is a legal document that is filed by a party involved in a lawsuit when they wish to appeal the decision of a District Court Judge. The Notice of Appeal initiates the process of appealing the decision of the District Court by providing the court with the necessary information to launch the appeal process. There are two types of Rhode Island Notice of Appeal — District Court: Civil Notice of Appeal and Criminal Notice of Appeal. The Civil Notice of Appeal is used when a party is appealing a decision made in a civil case, such as a divorce, small claims, or contract dispute. The Criminal Notice of Appeal is used when a party is appealing a decision made in a criminal case. Both types of Notice of Appeal must be filed within thirty days of the date of the District Court’s decision and must include information such as the names of the parties, the case number, and the date and location of the District Court’s decision.
