A Pennsylvania Notice of Intention to Appeal is a written document filed with the court by a party to a case that indicates the party’s intention to appeal a decision of the lower court. The Notice of Intention to Appeal informs the court that the appellant is requesting the appellate court to review the decision of the lower court and potentially reverse the decision. There are two types of Pennsylvania Notice of Intention to Appeal: a Notice of Appeal and a Petition for Allowance of Appeal (PAA). The Notice of Appeal is used to indicate an appeal from a Superior Court appealable order, and the PAA is used to indicate an appeal from a decision of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. Both documents must be filed with the court within 30 days of the decision being appealed.
