New Jersey Written Acknowledgement — Notice of Trial is a document that is required by the New Jersey Superior Court when the defendant has been served with a complaint. The written acknowledgement must be signed by the defendant and returned to the plaintiff or their attorney. It is used to notify the defendant that they have been served with a complaint and that they must appear in court for a trial. There are two types of New Jersey Written Acknowledgement — Notice of Trial: 1) Summons and Complaint; and 2) Summons with Notice. The Summons and Complaint must contain the name and address of the court, the name of the plaintiff and defendant, the date of the summons, the date of the complaint, a brief description of the case, and the date, time, and place of the trial. The Summons with Notice must contain the same information as the Summons and Complaint, plus any additional information regarding the case.
