Michigan Notice of Guardianship Proceedings Concerning An Indian Child is a legal document that is issued by the state of Michigan when a guardianship proceeding is initiated concerning an Indian child, as defined by the Indian Child Welfare Act. This document contains all the information about the guardianship proceedings and is served to the Indian child’s parents, extended family, and tribe. There are three types of Michigan Notice of Guardianship Proceedings Concerning An Indian Child: (1) Notice of Custody Proceedings; (2) Notice of Termination of Parental Rights proceedings; and (3) Notice of Adoption proceedings. Notice of Custody Proceedings informs the parents and the Indian child’s tribe that a court proceeding has been initiated to determine the legal custody of the Indian child. Notice of Termination of Parental Rights proceedings informs the parents and the Indian child’s tribe that a court proceeding has been initiated to terminate the parental rights of the parents. Notice of Adoption proceedings informs the parents and the Indian child’s tribe that a court proceeding has been initiated to legally adopt the Indian child.
