A Michigan Personal Protection Order Against a Minor (Non-Domestic Sexual Assault) is a court order that is issued to protect victims of non-domestic sexual assault from further harm or contact from the perpetrator. This type of court order can be sought by the victim, the victim's parent or guardian, or the prosecuting attorney. It can provide protection from physical, mental, and emotional harm, as well as economic abuse. The order may include provisions such as no contact between the victim and the perpetrator, no contact with the victim’s family or friends, no contact at the victim’s residence or workplace, and the surrender of any weapons. There are two types of Michigan Personal Protection Order Against a Minor (Non-Domestic Sexual Assault): an Ex Parte Order, which is an emergency order that is issued without a court hearing, and a Plenary Order, which is issued after a court hearing. Both types of orders can be issued for up to one year, and may be extended if necessary.
