Maine 4.18.1347 Health Care Fraud, 18 U.S.C. Sec. 1347 is a federal law that prohibits individuals from engaging in any type of fraud relating to health care. This crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of $250,000. Under this law, it is illegal for any person or entity to knowingly and willfully execute, or attempt to execute, a scheme or artifice to defraud any health care benefit program, or to obtain, by means of false or fraudulent pretenses, representations, or promises, any of the money or property owned by, or under the control of such a program.
