An Illinois Stalking No Contact Order is a civil court order that prohibits any contact between the petitioner and the respondent. The order is designed to protect the petitioner from further harassment or threats of harm from the respondent. It is also known as an Order of Protection (OOP). There are two types of Illinois Stalking No Contact Orders: an emergency order and a plenary order. An emergency order is issued without the respondent present and is valid for 14 days. A plenary order is issued after a hearing with both parties present and is valid for up to two years. Both orders prohibit any contact with the petitioner, including in-person meetings, phone calls, emails, text messages, social media postings, or any other form of communication. The order also prohibits the respondent from coming within a specified distance of the petitioner's home, work, school, or any other places they frequent. Violation of the order can lead to criminal charges.
