The California Order for Commitment — Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) is a court order that requires individuals who have been convicted of sexually violent offenses to be involuntarily confined in a state hospital for an indefinite period of time. Under the California Sexually Violent Predator Program (SVP), the court must hold a hearing to determine whether the individual meets the criteria of an SVP. If the court finds that the individual meets the criteria, an order for commitment is issued. There are two types of California Order for Commitment — Sexually Violent Predator: Civil Commitment and Conditional Release. Civil Commitment is a court-ordered commitment for an indefinite period of time, and is based on the individual's likelihood to reoffend. Condition Release is a court-ordered release with conditions on the individual's movement and activities, and is based on the individual's demonstrated ability to abide by safety conditions.
