San Jose Water, like other water utilities, has both fixed and variable costs to deliver high quality and reliable water service. Fixed costs cover water mains, tanks, wells, personnel, and other expenses. These costs do not vary with the amount of water consumed. Variable costs cover water supply, chemicals and power.
All carts (recycling, yard trimmings, and garbage) are available in 32-, 64-, and 96-gallon sizes.
Be cool – water when it's cool. For sprinkler systems, water before a.m. and after p.m. Remember: sprinklers cannot run more than 15 minutes per station per day.

Collection for all material occurs between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday - Friday, once per week. Collection occurs on all holidays except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day. If these holidays occur Monday through Friday, collection will be one day later throughout the rest of that week.
All San Jose tap water is treated and won't make you sick but actual water composition will vary depending on your water provider. Quite a bit of hour water is very hard and has a lot of minerals in it. Getting a filter like Brita will most likely solve any issues you have.
The largest water users are the toilets, clothes washer and showers, accounting for about two‐thirds of the water used in an average household. Toilets use up to 27% of the household water supply while clothes washers use 20.9% and showers account for 17.3%.
Increased water use, perhaps due to somebody staying home. A leak. If they only take the reading every few months, a large adjustment may need to be made if the actual use is more than the estimate. That could be several months of overage, billed all at once. Rates may have gone up.
