The Florida Building Code (Section 553.73, F.S.) The current Code is a single statewide code based on national model codes and consensus standards, amended for Florida specific needs for the design and construction of buildings.
On Sept. 6, 2023, the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted a local technical amendment to the Florida Building Code (FBC) for new multi-family residential and commercial developments.
NOTE: For a Building permit application it usually takes 14 business days for the first cycle of review to be completed. For a Special permit application, it usually takes 35 business days for the first cycle of review to be completed.
Submittals will be accepted using the Plans Status & Application Portal and/or in person. For in person submittals, documents will be converted into electronic format. The plan review will be completed electronically by multiple departments simultaneously, thus expediting the permitting process.

The NEC became effective in Dade County on January 15, 1994. The 1994 Edition of the South Florida Building Code became effective on September 1, 1994 by virtue of Ordinance 94-100.
