Off-highway vehicles are eligible to receive an Off-Highway Vehicle license plate, which may be obtained from your county tax assessor-collector's office. For Driver License requirements to operate any of these vehicles, contact the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The Golf Cart must display a Golf Cart license plate when operated on roads authorized by the city or county. Operation may be authorized only on roads with a speed limit of 35 mph or less. If operated on the roads at a speed of 25 mph or less, a Golf Cart is required to display a slow-moving vehicle emblem.
While not legally required, golf cart insurance is highly recommended to protect against financial loss in case of an accident or theft.
A golf cart permit is required and the driver is required to comply with all laws applicable to carts and other motor vehicles as outlined in the Texas Transportation Code.
