Section 504 requires that a group of knowledgeable people such as the student's parents, teachers, and someone who can interpret the evaluations and data make a case-by-case decision on whether the disorder or condition limits any one of the major life activities.
Currently in Texas, students suspected of having dyslexia are not given a choice of how they are tested or served. In most schools, students are given a dyslexia-only evaluation under Section 504 and then put on a one-size-fits-all plan including only two years of intervention and minimal accommodations.
