Many colleges have a matching system to pair you with your future roommate. If they do not, they might do it manually within their housing department. If you are going to an in-state college or going to a college with someone you know, you have the opportunity to choose your future roommate if you so wish.
Yes! Please complete the roommate request form and email it as soon as possible. It is important that roommates request each other. Without mutual requests, the roommate request is not complete and will not be considered.
At UNC, you have the ability to select a roommate if you and your friend would like to be roommates.
Starting in March, you have the option to search for a roommate in the housing portal. If you don't want to choose a roommate, you will receive a random roommate (about half of our residents choose to live with a random roommate).
It usually takes up to 3 days after you make the enrollment payment for you to be in the system. Only then can you apply for Housing. Kindly, be patient. Housing is not first come, first served.
Look for the preferred roommate block on the University Housing application. Search for your roommate and then add him/her to your application. All roommate requests must be mutual, so remind your preferred roommate to accept his/her roommate request in MyPack Portal in order to complete the process.

On campus housing is required for students that have graduated high school within the past year of starting at Appalachian (freshmen or transfer). For transfer students that graduated high school more than a year ago, on campus housing is available on a space available basis.
A Roommate Agreement is a written contract between roommates that outlines their rights and obligations while living together. This agreement includes house rules, maintenance duties, restricted behaviors, and more. For a Roommate Agreement to be useful, everyone sharing the household must agree to it.
