Many colleges have a matching system to pair you with your future roommate. If they do not, they might do it manually within their housing department. If you are going to an in-state college or going to a college with someone you know, you have the opportunity to choose your future roommate if you so wish.
Private – you may be able to choose your own housemates in private accommodation, e.g. if a few of your friends are going to the same uni. A lot of students go into private accommodation in their second year, when they can choose to live with people they've met during their first year.
You may request roommate(s) if you have a shared space accommodation. We make every possible effort to place students with mutual requests. Roommate preferences are made via your online housing application - select 'Search for Roommates'.
If you wish to request a specific roommate, please add the request in the housing portal. Your requested roommate will receive the request and accept on their end to match you as roommates. If you do not have a roommate you will have the opportunity to find one during our roommate matching.
In order to secure a preferred roommate, both students must complete the following action items: One student MUST request the other through the Online Housing Portal. Once on the online housing portal, revisit your housing contract in order to search for and/or request a roommate.
With the exception of microwave ovens, cooking equipment of any kind is not allowed in individual student rooms or lounges.
If you do not know where to start, I recommend asking each person you are talking to some simple questions: where are you from, what are you majoring in, where are you planning to live (dorm/apartment), what do you like to do for fun, are you thinking about rushing and do you have any friends going to the school too?
