You fill out a housing application on housing.umich. If you're not in any Learning or Theme communities or LSA Honors you can only state your preference of North or Central Campus, not a specific dorm.

Students are not required to live on campus -- although about 97 percent of first-year students choose to live in Michigan Housing for the community, convenience and security. Living on campus is a big advantage in making the transition to university life. Was this article helpful?

If you would like to room with a friend, both of you should indicate your preference on your application. You will need their 8-digit student ID number. You must also designate the same housing preferences including North Campus neighborhood preference, room environment and room type rate group.

Michigan Housing prioritizes housing for first-year students, which means most but not all students will move off-campus their second year and continue to live off-campus through graduation.

Probably North Quad. It has arguably the best dinning hall (certainly the most consistent), good location, great rooms, and most other things you would ever want from a dorm. There really are no downsides to it. However, freshmen dont live there.

If you apply for housing after May 12 at PM EDT and there is available space, you may be assigned to a room and receive a housing contract in July. Housing is not guaranteed and available space may be limited.

Can I still request roommates? If you have both been offered to the same building and room type, then you can mutually request one another on the housing application, and we should be able to assign you to the same room in August.

Incoming first-years do not choose their roommates. Instead, you fill out a very detailed survey, which asks students questions such as when do you sleep, what time do you wake up, how clean are you, what music do you listen to, and so on.
