If you would like a new freshmen or transfer/returning student to be your roommate, you will need to visit or call Housing & Residence Life at (270)745-3143 by March 31.
Incoming first-years do not choose their roommates. Instead, you fill out a very detailed survey, which asks students questions such as when do you sleep, what time do you wake up, how clean are you, what music do you listen to, and so on.
To provide the opportunity for new students to meet new people and build new friendships, Stanford does not give freshmen and transfer students the option of requesting a particular roommate. You will learn who your roommate is, and your room number, after you arrive on campus.
Can I request a roommate? You may request one roommate in any style of building (first-year students). You will be placed with a requested roommate provided that: You both receive residence offers, submit your Residence prepayment and complete your Residence Placement Questionnaires before the deadline.
Roommate Selection You have two options for completing the roommate section of the housing contract: If you already have a roommate in mind, you will need their name and NetID. You will select roommates in your group for your room assignment. You will use this to form roommate groups directly in our housing system.
First-year students traditionally reside in two facilities: Esseff Hall for women, and Holy Cross Hall for men. The majority of the rooms available are double occupancy, but students can apply for single rooms if they are available.
