The Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program (VGAP) grant is a state-funded program based on financial need for in-state undergraduate students. Virginia public two-year and four-year colleges and universities award VGAP to eligible Virginia residents based upon state regulations.

Established in 1972, the Tuition Assistance Grant Program (VTAG) is designed to assist Virginia residents who attend accredited private, nonprofit colleges and universities in Virginia for other than religious training or theological education.
How much is awarded annually? In 2024-25, Virginia residents undergraduate students will receive a non-need based tuition grant of $5,125. In 2025-26, the award is expected to be $5,250. Graduate students enrolled in health professions programs receive $5,000.
