FAQ

When you fail a module, most universities provide an opportunity to resit the exam or redo the assignment. University can be stressful and failing an exam can happen to all of us so don't panic, being able to resit your exams is used for exactly this. But how do you resit a module?

King's College London is highly competitive for UK students. The overall acceptance rate for UK applicants hovers around 13%.

The College does not tolerate any verbal or physical conduct that belittles or abuses others, including because of their ethnicity, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, age, or political beliefs. Incidents of this nature may result in expulsion from the programme. own languages, are not permitted.

We will only consider resits if there are significant mitigating circumstances affecting your first 'sitting'. In these situations we still cannot guarantee that your application will be considered, but you should submit a Mitigating Circumstances form so that this can be considered alongside your application.

Some of your modules may allow for condonement (also known as a condoned fail). This means you might be awarded a qualification even if you have a small amount of failure, as long as your overall performance is of a good standard. You will not need to be reassessed if you meet the condonement criteria.

The national average for first class awards in 2021/22 was 33%, 8% lower than at KCL. Yet the 41% awarding rate of King's is still low when compared to other London Russell Group universities. The rate for the London School of Economics (LSE) is 44%, University College London (UCL) 47% and Imperial College London 48%.

Within a year students may carry failed modules from one semester to the next but not from one academic year to another; that is, they will not be able to rise to the next year of their programme until they have successfully completed the preceding year(s).

Students who do not achieve the qualifying mark will be reassessed in all components of assessment of the module. The final module mark will be capped at the relevant pass mark.

We are also looking for applicants with an enthusiasm to study a law degree programme and have thought through their reasons for considering this subject option. The King's degree programme focuses on the study of law as an intellectual discipline.
