Read more. All 14 and 15 year old workers in Virginia are required to obtain an Employment Certificate (Work Permit) prior to performing any work. The Employment Certificate application process can be completed electronically using the Virginia Electronic Employment Certificate System.
Go to the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry website .doli.virginia where you can fill out the forms online or download & print the 2 forms necessary to apply for an Employment Certificate. It is much faster to do this online than it is to print and send in. You can't work until you get your work permit.
The online web application is available at , follow the link on the right sidebar titled “Electronic Youth Employment Certificates”. THE YOUTH MUST HAVE A FORMAL OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT BEFORE STARTING THE PROCESS.
