Most applicants get their eTA approval (via an email) within minutes. However, some requests can take several days to process if you're asked to submit supporting documents.
Use Form I-131 - Application for Travel Document. For permanent residents, the re-entry permit is valid for two years from the date of issue. For conditional permanent residents, the re-entry permit is valid for two years after the date of issue.
ESTA applications may be submitted at any time prior to travel. The processing of an ESTA can take up to 72 hours.
Applications are usually processed within 3 days, but in some cases it may take longer. You can also choose the expedited processing if you need your application processed faster. We recommend applying for your eTA 2 weeks prior to travel. Travellers can submit their applications up to 3 months prior to travel.

An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Canada by air. An eTA is electronically linked to a traveller's passport. It is valid for up to five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.
Eligible non-Europeans need an ETA to travel to the UK. Eligible Europeans can apply from 5 March 2025 and will need an ETA to travel from 2 April 2025. An ETA is a digital permission to travel – it is not a visa and does not permit entry into the UK – it authorises a person to travel to the UK.
