When flying within the U.S., or traveling internationally by land or sea, a child's birth certificate will suffice most of the time. A notarized letter of consent will be required for children who travel without one or both of their parents or legal guardians.
Custody and out-of-state travel in Arizona often require obtaining consent from the other parent, especially if there is a joint custody agreement. If there is a sole custody arrangement, the custodial parent usually has more flexibility but must still consider any court orders or restrictions.
If the child is accompanied by only one parent, the parent should have a note from the child's other parent. For example, "I acknowledge that my wife/ husband is traveling out of the country with my son/ daughter. He/She/ has my permission to do so."
