All legal Florida residents are eligible for a Homestead Exemption on their homes, iniums, co-op apartments, and certain mobile home lots if they qualify. The Florida Constitution provides this tax-saving exemption on the first and third $25,000 of the assessed value of an owner/occupied residence.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION Attach a copy of each property owner's driver's license or state-issued personal identification certificate. The address listed on the driver's license or state-issued personal identification certificate must correspond to the property address for which the exemption is requested.
You can file your Homestead Exemption online at .bcpa or at the Broward County Property Appraiser office (BCPA) located at 115 South Andrews Avenue, Room 111, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. If you have any question in regard to Homestead Exemption, please contact BCPA at 954-357-6830.
The Homestead Exemption is calculated by reducing the market value by $5,000 or 20%, whichever is greater. For example a home with a market value of $250,000 with a qualifying homestead exemption has a taxable value of $200,000 (20% is $50,000 and is reduced from the market value).
Please Note: We are currently accepting E-file applications for the tax year 2025 only. To be eligible for homestead exemption, you must be a permanent resident of Florida, who owns real property as of January 1 of the year in which you are applying.
The Online Services Portal is available to ALL owners that would like to conduct business with the Appraisal District electronically. This service includes filing an exemption on your residential homestead property, submitting a Notice of Protest, and receiving important notices and other information online.
General Delivery. Print and fill out the Form 50-114 and mail or deliver it to the Harris County Appraisal District at 13013 Northwest Freeway Houston, Texas 77040-6305, with a copy of your Texas Driver's License.
Check the Status of Your Application We strive to process exemptions as quickly as possible, but at times processing could take up to 90 days to process, per Texas Property Tax Code Section 11.45. Please allow at least 90 days to lapse before contacting our office to check when your application will be processed.
