You are 65 years of age, or older, on January 1; You qualify for, and receive, the Florida Homestead Exemption; Your total 'Household Adjusted Gross Income' for everyone who lives on the property cannot exceed statutory limits.
Property Tax Exemptions and Additional Benefits Further benefits are available to property owners with disabilities, senior citizens, veterans and active duty military service members, disabled first responders, and properties with specialized uses.
The total household income limitation is the same for both exemptions. It is made available by the Florida Department of Revenue annually and subject to change each year. The adjusted income limitation for the 2024 exemptions is $36,614.
When someone owns property and makes it his or her permanent residence or the permanent residence of his or her dependent, the property owner may be eligible to receive a homestead exemption that would decrease the property's taxable value by as much as $50,000.
Florida law grants governmental entities, including states, counties, municipalities, and political subdivisions (e.g., school districts or municipal libraries), an exemption from Florida sales and use tax.
After you are initially granted the Homestead Exemption, a receipt will be mailed to you each year in January to verify the status, use and ownership. If you do not receive this renewal receipt and fail to contact our office, it could result in the loss of your exemption.

Vehicle Registration. Will need to provide tag # and issue date. Permanent Resident Alien Card. Will need to provide ID# and issue date.
(1) If a decedent was domiciled in this state at the time of death, the surviving spouse, or, if there is no surviving spouse, the children of the decedent shall have the right to a share of the estate of the decedent as provided in this section, to be designated “exempt property.”
Your Homestead will become effective on January 1st of the year FOLLOWING the year in which you ESTABLISHED your Homestead, SO LONG as you FILE for Homestead no later than March 1st of the year following the year in which you established your Homestead.
You are no longer eligible for Homestead Exemption if: 1. The residential unit on which you claim homestead exemption is rented. 2. The residential unit is no longer your permanent home.
