The Handbook is a guideline with advice regarding integrity and how it relates to the various areas in the management and administration of racing. The Handbook goes beyond the IABRW only by expanding explanations of how integrity is achieved and maintained from good practices agreed by IFHA members.

G. gait: The characteristic footfall pattern of a horse in motion. Thoroughbreds have four natural gaits: walk, trot, canter and gallop. Thoroughbreds compete at a gallop.
Gelding. A male horse of any age that has been gelded (castrated).
As well as numbers showing the horses' most recent finishing positions, look out for letters such and C & D next to its name. C means they have won previously at the course and D means they have won over the same distance. Other useful letters to look out for are BF, which means the horse was a beaten favourite.
The condition book is the schedule of races for a given track during a certain period of time, usually a few weeks or a month. It is this schedule that provides a framework for trainers to develop the training regimens for their horses for this time period.
Overnight race: A race in which entries close a specific number of hours before running (such as 48 hours), as opposed to a stakes race for which nominations close weeks and sometimes months in advance.
Betting and associated rules Jockeys licensed by the BHA cannot bet on any horseracing whatsoever – whether in this country or overseas. Jockeys cannot receive the proceeds of any bet either. A jockey cannot go into the betting during a race meeting.
