Context Summary. First Samuel –18 describes a solemn, legal warning Samuel gives the elders of Israel. He cautions about all the things a human king will take from them. He will take their sons and daughters as his servants, their land for his officials, and a percentage of their crops and flocks.
The picture here is that there are many things in this world that we do not understand now, or have failed to understand in the past. God knows all these things. He has, as it were, concealed them from us for a purpose. Kings should know what is going on. They need to grasp things so they can make sound decisions.
Ezra Teaches Us that Fasting is for Feasting on God's Word. Fasting really is feasting on the grace and the love and the mercy and the provision and the word of God. It's our food. It's our daily bread. Fasting is a physical expression of all of those spiritual realities.
