Is MarylandSaves mandatory for employers? In a nutshell, Maryland employers are required by state law to actively participate in the program if the following conditions apply: Your business is currently registered to conduct business in the state of Maryland. You have at least one W-2 employee.

MarylandSaves is a state-sponsored retirement savings program. Eligible employers are required to participate in the program or sponsor another qualified retirement savings plan, such as: 401(k) 403(a) qualified annuity plan.
