Before you can host any events, you'll need to ensure your venue complies with all local regulations. This may include obtaining a business license, liquor license, and any other permits related to health and safety. It's important to start this process early, as it can be time-consuming.
BYOB, or “Bring Your Own Bottle,”: Venues without a license or permit may not allow patrons to “bring their own” alcoholic beverages for consumption. In addition, owners of businesses may not give away alcoholic beverages to their patrons. Those that do are in violation of the NYS Alcoholic Beverage Control Law.
Permits frequently needed for events include: Noise permit. Events that are held outside often require securing a noise permit. Alcohol license. Fire/Fireworks permit. Health permit. Business license. Building permit (tents) ... Seller's permit. Event permit.
Businesses that cater events at unlicensed locations need a Caterer's Alcohol Permit to serve alcoholic beverages. This permit is for a specific event. It is issued by the New York State Liquor Authority (SLA). Food must be served at the catered event.
