FAQ

The V-Plex reticle is Vortex's name for their duplex reticle - standard crosshairs that ar thicker at the edges for faster target acquisition, and thinner in the center so as not to obscure the view of the target. The Dead Hold reticle is a BDC (Bullet Drop Compensating) reticle.

While MIL and MOA describe units of measurement, a BDC reticle is specifically tailored to match the ballistic profile of a cartridge. There's no equations or complex mathematics—a properly calibrated BDC reticle can do all that for you, providing unparalleled speed on target.

The Dead-Hold® BDC reticle is based on Minute of Angle (MOA) subtensions. MOA is an angular unit of measurement used to account for bullet drop, wind corrections, and range estimation. 1 MOA will correspond to 1.047” for each 100 yards.

The Dead-Hold BDC reticle incorporates methods for wind drift correction and range estimation using the hashmarks on the horizontal crosshair. As in using the holdover hashmarks, the scope must be set at it's highest magnification. Correcting for wind drift is done with the hashmarks on the horizontal crosshair.

BDC stands for bullet drop compensator, and the reticle is the crosshairs in your scope. The reticle pattern predicts how much a bullet will drop at a given range. If you have your rifle zeroed at, for example, 100 yards, the points beneath the crosshair tell you the bullet's impact at 200 yards, 300 yards, and so on.

Bullet drop compensation scopes use a specific reticle pattern to indicate how far bullets drop over a given distance. When we look through a scope, the reticle has multiple aiming points that are stacked under the main crosshair. We can even say that a BDC reticle is like multiple reticles inside the main reticle.

45-70 Government), the Crossfire® II 3-9x50 Straight-Wall is built to help you get the most out of these classic cartridges. With a Bullet Drop Compensator (BDC) reticle optimized for straight-wall hunting, you'll enjoy accurate holdovers and rapid target acquisition.
