If your vehicle's tax has expired, or the car's MOT is within five days and you haven't been able to obtain a booking, contact the DVA Customer Service team via email at dva.customerservices@infrastructure-ni.uk. The DVA promises to do their best to get you an emergency appointment.
You can get an MOT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date. If your MOT runs out on 15 May, the earliest you can get an MOT to keep the same renewal date for next year is 16 April.
If you get to within 10 days of the expiry date of your tax and you have been unable to secure an MOT appointment or your tax has expired, fill in the short notice appointment request form(external link opens in a new window / tab) . You will need to give the following information: vehicle registration number.
How long does it take my MOT status to update online? You can usually expect the online MOT status page to update on the same day you get your certificate. However, it can sometimes take up to five days to refresh, so don't worry if you're not seeing it straight away.
