His most notable films, such as ``Above the Law'' (1988), ``Hard to Kill'' (1990), and ``Under Siege'' (1992), were commercially successful and have gained a cult following, but they received mixed to negative reviews from critics.

While Seagal's acting in Above the Law gained praise from the likes of Roger Ebert, Seagal has repeatedly faced criticism from both critics and fans who accuse him of playing the same character in many of his movies, as well as displaying a lack of emotional range.

Ultimately, his biggest downfall took place due to acting. Getting employed became a tough task, not only due to actors speaking out against his authoritarian directing style, but also because of his reputation for sexual misconduct and assault.

Under Siege is a genuinely good film and Seagal, as much as he can, actually gives a pretty good performance. Executive Decision is also great, but he doesn't actually have a huge role in that despite it usually being classed as a Seagal film.

Under Siege The movie that (deservedly) made Seagal a star! He gets caught up in a major mutiny on a hangar ship, and has to take out a bunch of baddies by himself. Also has an over-the-top crazy Gary Busey and an amazing rock'n'roll-psycho Tommy Lee Jones as bad guys!

Released on October 9, 1992, Under Siege was both a critical and commercial success, receiving two Academy Award nominations for sound production and grossing over $156.6 million at the global box office. It is often considered Steven Seagal's best film to date.

Frank Carden (Morgan Freeman), one of the world's greatest assassins, is handed a lucrative contract to kill a highly secretive billionaire. But in a twist of fate, Carden is involved in a car accident during the job, and when his gun is found after he is admitted to a hospital, federal marshals arrest him. Meanwhile, ex-cop Ray Keene (John Cusack) is hiking with his son, Chris (Jamie Anderson), when Carden's cohorts try to spring him from custody, and soon the pair is caught in the crossfire.
