A temporary restraining order, or TRO, is similar to a preliminary injunction in that it is a pre-trial court order that enjoins or mandates another party's conduct. However, it is different in that TROs are more urgent and may be issued without notice to the other party.
Step 1: Go to the district court to begin the filing process. Step 2: Fill out the petition. Step 3: A judge reviews your petition and may grant you a temporary restraining order. Step 4: Service of process. Step 5: The TRO/injunction hearing.
The temporary PFA will last until the full court hearing for a final PFA where the plaintiff has the chance to testify and present evidence to the court. Usually, a hearing is scheduled within ten business days.
