Names of potential jurors are randomly selected by the computer-based jury selection program for specific selection dates. Once selected, you will receive from the Clerk's Office a jury summons commanding your appearance for service.
Excuses Persons 70 years of age or older; Persons having active care and custody of a child or children under 10 years of age whose health and/or safety would be jeopardized by their absence for jury service; Persons who are essential to the care of aged or infirm persons;
Section 40.23 of the Florida Statutes states that “failure to attend as a juror upon being duly summoned may result in a fine not to exceed $100.” If you fail to report for juror service, you will receive a failure to appear letter instructing you to contact the jury department.
Shorts, jeans and t-shirts are not considered appropriate. Our courtrooms are generally very cool and you may wish to bring a sweater or light jacket. Since you will be passing through a metal detector, please leave excess metal and jewelry at home to speed up your entry into the building.

The claim can be filled and submitted online at the Miami-Dade County Clerk's Office. You may print out the application and file the claim in person at a local courthouse if you choose. More resources are available on the Miami-Dade County Law Library site.
