Investigation. An APS investigation occurs after a report has been made about suspected abuse or neglect and a social worker is assigned. The investigation focuses on assessing the client's well-being; living environment; support system; and their strengths. The allegations are examined and level of risk is assessed.
Arizona law requires certain persons who suspect that a child has received non-accidental injury or has been neglected to report their concerns to DCS or local law enforcement (ARS §13-3620.

In 1988, the Arizona legislature enacted the Adult Protective Services Act (APSA) to address concerns about elder abuse in the state. Recognizing that our aged population is susceptible to abuse, the legislature increased civil penalties and criminal sanctions for those who prey on the elderly or infirm.

Defendants that were previously convicted of a dangerous offense can face 10 to 20 years, while a third-time offender could face 15 to 25 years in prison. Additionally, the fines can be as high as $150,000 for an aggravated assault conviction and sentence.
The APS is a joint institution of the German Embassy and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It exists in China, Vietnam and India. The APS checks the authenticity of educational biographies and the corresponding educational certificates, and issues certificates if the result is positive.
