Jury demand. (a) A plaintiff desirous of a trial by jury must file a demand therefor with the clerk at the time the action is commenced. A defendant desirous of a trial by jury must file a demand therefor not later than the filing of his or her answer. Otherwise, the party waives a jury.

(a) A claimant or counterclaimant must file the jury demand at the time of filing the claim or counterclaim. (b) A person opposing a claim or counterclaim must file the jury demand not later than the filing of his answer or other pleading.

A trial judge may allow a jury view. G.S. 15A-1229(a). Typically it is of a crime scene but it can involve viewing large evidence that cannot be presented in the courtroom, such as a vehicle.

Any party may demand a trial by jury of any issue triable of right by a jury by (1) serving upon the other parties a demand therefor in writing at any time after the commencement of the action and not later than 10 days after the service of the last pleading directed to such issue, and (2) filing the demand as required ...

"Motion to strike jury demand" means that one party has requested a jury trial and the other party is objecting to the request for a jury based on some ground, such as it may be the type of proceeding that a jury is not mandated or that the party asking for a jury has no right to ask for a jury in this manner.

In the demand a party may specify the issues which the party wishes so tried; otherwise the party shall be deemed to have demanded trial by jury for all the issues so triable.
