Valid identification may consist of a current drivers license or state ID. On January 1, 2001, Michigan's Premarital law (Public Act 209 of 2000) went into effect. This law eliminated the requirement for the blood test or premarital counseling of couples applying for a marriage license.
The Michigan Income Allocation for Non-Obligated Spouse Form 743 is the only form accepted by the Michigan Department of Treasury when allocating income between spouses. The personalized form is the only form that will be accepted. Under no circumstances will another form be accepted.
The marriage laws in the State of Michigan are: Both applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application for the marriage license and must provide either a valid Driver's License or State Identification with a current address, Birth Certificate, and a Social Security Number.
None of the 50 states still require a blood test to obtain a marriage license. Montana was the last state to repeal its blood test requirements in 2019.
In place of mandatory blood tests, some states require that applicants for marriage licenses read a brochure or pamphlet that includes information about inherited and sexually transmitted diseases (such as AIDS), as well as how to get tests for those diseases.
