President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Justice N V Ramana as the 48th Chief Justice of India, accepting the recommendation made by the outgoing CJI SA Bobde.

On appointment, Justice NV Ramana will be the 48th Chief Justice of India and he will have a long tenure as CJI for over 16 months. Justice NV Ramana is the most senior judge in the apex court after CJI Bobde.

President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday named Justice N V Ramana as the next Chief Justice of India. He will take charge on April 24, a day after Sharad Arvind Bobde retires as chief justice.
