As a legal concept, marital property refers to all the possessions and interests acquired after a couple gets married. Most states, like Wyoming, have no community property laws on the books, which allows for more flexibility and more uncertainty in property division when a couple gets a divorce.

Wyoming is NOT a community property state, which means that marital property is not automatically divided 50/50 between the spouses in a divorce case.Factors such as one spouse's economic misconduct may also be considered.

In Wyoming, a court will divide marital property during a divorce based on a system called equitable distribution. This means that the property will be split between spouses in a way that is equitable based on the entire financial impact of the divorce. An equitable division does not have to be equal.
