A Washington Notice of Claim is a written document used to initiate a lawsuit in the State of Washington. It is also known as a Complaint for Personal Injury, Product Liability, or Negligence. The Notice of Claim is the first step in initiating a civil lawsuit and should include detailed information about the cause of the injury, the amount of damages sought, and the name and address of the defendant. There are two types of Washington Notice of Claim: an Original Notice of Claim (ON) and an Amended Notice of Claim (ANC). An Original Notice of Claim is used to initiate a lawsuit, and an Amended Notice of Claim is used to make changes to an existing lawsuit. The Notice of Claim must be served on the defendant within the appropriate time limit as specified by the applicable state law.
