The Vermont Vocational Rehabilitation Entitlement Assessment (AREA) is a comprehensive assessment used to determine if an individual is eligible for vocational rehabilitation services in the state of Vermont. The assessment includes the evaluation of an individual's functional abilities and limitations, educational and employment history, and medical and psychological conditions which may impact an individual's ability to return to work. The assessment is conducted by a qualified professional such as a vocational rehabilitation counselor or psychologist. There are three types of Vermont Vocational Rehabilitation Entitlement Assessment: the Initial Assessment, the Functional Capacity Evaluation, and the Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling Assessment. The Initial Assessment is used to determine an individual's eligibility for vocational rehabilitation services and to develop a plan of services. The Functional Capacity Evaluation is used to assess an individual's physical, cognitive, and psychological abilities and limitations. The Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling Assessment is used to assess an individual's educational and employment history, interests, and aptitudes for determining the most appropriate vocational rehabilitation services.
