Pennsylvania Adoption — Voluntary Relinquishment Petition is a legal document used to terminate the parental rights of a birth parent in order to allow a child to be adopted by another family. It is a way for birth parents to voluntarily terminate their parental rights and allow a child to be adopted by another family. The petition is filed in the Court of Common Pleas in the county where the child resides, and is signed by the birth parent(s) and the adoptive parent(s). The petition will include information about the birth parent(s) and the adoptive parent(s), including names, addresses, and other identifying information. The petition will also have a statement of the reasons the birth parent(s) is/are relinquishing the child. There are two types of Pennsylvania Adoption — Voluntary Relinquishment Petitions: a Private Voluntary Relinquishment Petition and an Involuntary Relinquishment Petition. A Private Voluntary Relinquishment Petition is used when the birth parent(s) voluntarily terminates their parental rights and the child is placed with a family that is not related to the birth parent(s). An Involuntary Relinquishment Petition is used when the birth parent(s) cannot be found or do not voluntarily terminate their parental rights, and the Court orders the termination of their parental rights.
