New Jersey CJA Form 20: Appointment of and Authority to Pay Court Appointed Counsel is a document used to appoint an attorney to represent a defendant in a criminal case and to authorize payment of fees associated with the attorney’s services. There are two types of New Jersey CJA Form 20: Appointment of and Authority to pay Court Appointed Counsel: (1) a standard form for criminal cases; and (2) an amended form for juvenile delinquency cases. The standard form includes information about the court’s appointment of an attorney to represent the defendant, the attorney’s compensation and fees, and the court’s authority to pay the attorney. The amended form includes additional information about the court’s appointment of a juvenile defense attorney, as well as the attorney’s compensation and fees. Both forms also include a certification that the attorney has been appointed in accordance with the applicable criminal procedure rule, and that the attorney has agreed to accept the appointment.
