A Maine Notice of Appeal is a document that is filed with the Supreme Judicial Court to commence an appeal of a judgment or order from a lower court. It must be filed within 30 days from the date the judgment or order was entered. There are three types of Maine Notice of Appeal: Civil Appeal, Criminal Appeal, and Administrative Appeal. The Civil Appeal Notice of Appeal is used to appeal a decision from the Superior Court, District Court, or Probate Court. The Criminal Appeal Notice of Appeal is used to appeal a decision from the Superior Court, District Court, or Probate Court in a criminal case. The Administrative Appeal Notice of Appeal is used to appeal a decision from an administrative agency. Each Notice of Appeal must include the appellant's name, the case name, the court file number, the lower court's decision or order being appealed, and a statement of the relief sought. The Notice of Appeal must be signed by an attorney or the appellant.
