Affidavit of NonPaternity The Massachusetts Affidavit of Paternity is a legal document allowing a man to disavow his paternity of a child, formally stating that he is not the biological father of the child. It is used to remove a man's name from the child's birth certificate and to terminate the man's parental rights and responsibilities. There are two types of Massachusetts Affidavit of Paternity: the Voluntary Acknowledgement of Paternity (VAN) and the Court-Ordered Acknowledgement of Paternity (CAN).
