The Illinois Verified Petition for Order of Protection is a legal document filed in the Circuit Court of the State of Illinois. This type of petition is used by individuals seeking protection from abuse, harassment, or stalking. The petitioner must provide a verified statement to the court that outlines the facts of the abuse, harassment, or stalking. In addition, the petitioner must include any evidence they have to support their claims. There are three types of Illinois Verified Petitions for Order of Protection: Emergency, Interim, and Plenary. An Emergency Petition can be filed when immediate protection is needed, and is granted without notice to the alleged abuser. An Interim Petition can be filed when the petitioner needs protection before a full hearing can be scheduled. Finally, a Plenary Petition is a full hearing on the merits of the case, with both parties present.
