An Iowa Notice of Appeal is a legal document filed with the Iowa Supreme Court Clerk's Office, which serves as a formal declaration of a party's intention to appeal a lower court's decision to the Iowa Supreme Court. It must be filed within a certain period of time after the decision and must contain the name of the appellant, the name of the appealed, the court of original jurisdiction, the name of the judge who issued the decision, the case number, and a statement of the appellant's intent to appeal. There are two types of Iowa Notice of Appeal: a Notice of Appeal in Civil Cases and a Notice of Appeal in Criminal Cases. Both types must include the aforementioned information and must be signed and verified by the appellant. A Notice of Appeal in Civil Cases must also include a statement of the relief requested, while a Notice of Appeal in Criminal Cases must include a statement of the relief requested and a list of any constitutional issues raised in the case.
