Florida Summons — Personal Service On Natural Person is a legal document used to initiate a lawsuit against an individual in the state of Florida. It is issued by the court after a complaint is filed and provides notification to the defendant that a lawsuit has been filed against them. The Summons also informs the defendant of their rights and the time frame for them to respond to the complaint. It must be served upon the defendant by a process server or by a sheriff or constable. There are two types of Florida Summons — Personal Service On Natural Person, including regular service and substituted service. Regular service requires the process server to personally deliver the Summons to the defendant at their home, workplace, or other location. Substituted service requires the process server to serve the Summons to an adult family member or someone of suitable age and discretion at the defendant's residence or workplace, and to also mail a copy to the defendant's last known address.
