The IRS will accept the broad DPOA as giving the attorney-in-fact the authority to execute a Form 2848 on behalf of the taxpayer. In this scenario, an attorney-in-fact wishing to initiate representation before the IRS should submit the broad DPOA and also complete Form 2848 with all relevant information.

While the IRS website statement on signatures is not crystal clear, the rules set forth two options for obtaining signatures on and submitting the Power of attorney: “Wet” ink signatures are needed in order to fax or mail the Form 2848 to the IRS.

Who must file. Louisiana residents, part-year residents of Louisiana, and nonresidents with income from Louisiana sources who are required to file a federal income tax return must file a Louisiana Individual Income Tax Return.

Does Form 2848 Need to be Notarized? Form 2848 does not need to be notarized. However, the person submitting the form is required to authenticate their client's identity if they do not have a personal or business relationship with them.

Your POA must be in written form. Verbal POAs are not valid in Louisiana. You must notarize all of your POA documents, even the copies, in order to ensure it is certified under Louisiana law. Notarizing your documents means signing the document in front of a notary and two witnesses.

If my tax return is audited, how will I be notified? If your tax return is under audit, you will receive written correspondence in the mail from an LDR tax auditor with detailed information concerning your audit. An auditor may call you first to verify contact information.

To reduce processing time, the IRS added resources from multiple sites other than the three CAF units to assist in processing. During the past year, the average time the IRS took to process a POA fluctuated from 22 days to over 70 days and is currently 29 days.

Use Form 2848 to authorize an individual to represent you before the IRS. The individual you authorize must be a person eligible to practice before the IRS.
